Being Canadian

Being Canadian has always meant celebrating our mosaic culture.

This should not change.

Full stop.

What the Sentinel Party is recommending, is a need to reconnect our country on a consistent value system. As Canadians, we find it hard at times to articulate our values, but they are deep, they are entrenched and they are under attack.

It has become clear that our incumbent political parties, and too many politicians, have worked very hard to divide us as a country. The Sentinel Party will be taking a firm stand on anyone or any groups that continue to work to divide us along the lines of immutable traits. It is time to focus back on our similitarities and what binds us together. The time for division is over.

To help foster this , we need to redirect our resources towards strengthening family and community. We have continued down the slippery slope of almost promoting families to separate. It is time to get back to our Canadian values, not just with words, but with tools that allow for action.

We also recognize that our planet is not in a healthy mindset and as a basic foundation to Canadian values, free speech that celebrates hate speech or hateful actions here or abroad will no longer be tolerated. While it is clear there is only a minority of individuals within our borders conducting this behaviour, it has an exponentially negative effect on all of us. As a starting point, we need to indoctrinate immigrants into our value system while respecting everyone's right to self expression and freedom of choice.

To correct this, we need to reconnect. We need to band back together beyond the school system, and begin to stand together with our fellow Canadians.

Action #1
Starting in the summer students graduate grade 11, mandatory paid community or armed forces participation needs to occur for 2 summer periods. Young men and women will be given the choice to choose community or armed forces services or a combination of both for 2 summer sessions. The amount that they are paid will be based on their academic performance through high school and regardless will still be sufficient to allow them to have funds for post-secondary schooling or to start off in life. Young adults who demonstrate proficiency in both of Canada’s national languages will earn additional compensation.

Action #2
At age 30, it is our thinking that this mandatory community or armed forces participation happens again for 2 summers. There is a strong recognition that many individuals careers are in full swing at this time and that many Canadians would have also started families so time is much more of a premium. Therefore emphasis and sensitivity is placed on ensuring balance in regards to training and life requirements. Having time off and individuals are given the choice of earning pay or earning tax deductions are examples of being thoughtful of individuals time and efforts. It is important to note that many immigrants will be participating in this second stage of the Canadian action plan and that education, learning and collaboration will be at the forefront of Action #2 so much can be gained to take into other parts of individuals lives.

The purpose of these proposed ideas is to begin to reestablish a community connection, a national connection and continue to emphasize what Canada is about, what we are doing abroad and what we have accomplished together as citizens. In these training sessions, there will be a focus on our values and our contributions globally and domestically. This is intended to strengthen the bond we have with each other, our country, our communities and our position globally. All new immigrants will also be indoctrinated through these action regardless of age. While we celebrate our mosaic heritage and culture we also make a commitment to being Canadian.

Another stated purpose of the National Service Requirement is to bring a focus back on physical education, healthy eating and balanced lifestyle. Canada has one of the highest rates of adult obesity among OECD countries and given the leading cause of deaths in Canada can be attributed to cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, cancer and diabetes as well as straining our health care budgets it is time to get back to basics. Helping to be more proactive with addressing our growing health issue and costs of healthcare are just one of the secondary benefits of this action plan.
